Obama has said he wants to end NASA's moon program and like to get astronauts to an asteroid by 2020?

There was a struggling program called Constellation that was over budget, behind schedule and using already-obsolete technology, and ultimately was planning for the Moon. Obama told them to focus on farther out goals such as Mars or an asteroid, and to work with modern technology. He basically asked for more "bang for the buck" as we say in the US.
