As a christian do you believe that god has ordered you be non violent when defending yourself?

im referring to VH1 special ' the revolution' where they show the man attacking anita bryant with a fruit pie. she didnt even fight back neither did the man sitting next to her. if i am with a woman who gets attacked it means somebody gotta go to the infirmary. god did not tell me that in order to be a christian i have to let people attack me. i cant buy myself a spot in heaven by proving my greatness in allowing personal attacks. where does this popular misconception originate and how widespread do think it is?
